The Digital Social featuring Sortal and Creatively Squared

The November Digital Social had a digital imagery theme. Both of our speakers were dedicated to solving issues related to our huge reliance on digital images.

First up we had Majella Edwards from Sortal. Majella shared how Sortal is using AI to solve the problem of being able to find relevant images – not just based on time but emotions and places and colours. Just like Google aimed to organise the world’s information, Majella and her team are aiming to organise the world’s images. On top of that, Majella shared her experiences in establishing a business, juggling work life balance with a young family and her background from Olympic volleyball player to founder. Fascinating!

Next up, Scott Thomas from Creatively Squared talked us through how he aims to make professional photography accessible for all brands. They are effectively pulling apart the agency model to move towards a crowd shared, freelance offering. Scott talked us through how Creatively Squared acquired their first major customers, his experiences in taking the product global and how he has secured (or held at bay) funding to scale. Definitely one to watch.

Well done to both of our guests for presenting their visual products with no visuals! We remain a PowerPoint free zone.

But as always, most of the magic was made outside of our speakers. It was fantastic to see so many old catch ups and new connections in action. That’s what we do this for.

Stay tuned for our next event, we have some major news about to be announced including…

  • A change of venue. After five (!) Digital Social’s at The Mill, we’re going to move to a bigger, fresher venue. Don’t worry – we’ll keep it casual and easy to get to.
  • Launching our Facebook Group. We discussed this tonight. We don’t know what will become of it but so far it seems to be useful for connecting people to other people doing good stuff. You can join the conversation here.
  • A new website and a new brand. Wowsers, we are growing up.

See you again around the middle of the year! 🍻
